2014 Marlborough Pinot Gris

The nose delivers a seductive combination of Nashi pear and baking spices complementing the floral aromas. The palate is rich with a lively acidity lifting the oiliness and finishing with a pleasant alcohol warmth.

Vintage Summary

Spring was warm, dry and early in Marlborough - a bonus for our vineyard team who avoided too many nights fighting off Jack Frost. This early advantage flowed into summer, which remained warm and dry throughout, laying the foundation for a quality harvest. The warm, dry conditions also meant grape acid levels declined faster than normal, so we elected to harvest a significant number of blocks early to capture the intense flavours and good acid balance.

Winemaker's Note

The nose delivers a seductive combination of Nashi pear and baking spices complementing the floral aromas. The palate is rich with a lively acidity lifting the oiliness and finishing with a pleasant alcohol warmth.

Vinification

The free run juice was separated to provide greater elegance and purity. The wine was fermented at cool temperatures to allow full aromatic expression and to capture the true vivacity of this variety.
